10 golden rules

1

Clean your entire apartment or house thoroughly once a week. Vacuuming the mattresses and the bottom of the beds once every month will reduce the presence of dust mites.

2

Use products without perfume or unnecessary additives or coloring.

3

Air out all rooms three times a day creating a draught for 5-10 minutes. Keep the temperature at 20°C (68°F) in all rooms. The relative air humidity level drops when you air out the rooms and keep them heated. At the same time it reduces the presence of dust mites and mound fungi growth.

4

Wash your duvet/comforter and pillows four times a year, your mattress pad 6-12 times a year and your bed linen every week or every other week. It is not important whether your duvet/comforter or pillow is filled with synthetic materials or down. What is important is that they can be washed at 60°C (140°F) thereby killing any dust mites.

6

Do not dry clothes indoors. If you use a dryer make sure it has outdoor ventilation.

7

Do not smoke inside the house and avoid passive smoke. Cigarette smoke increases the risk of asthmatic bronchitis and asthma.

8

Avoid very hot showers and excessive use of soap as this dries out your skin.

9

Moisturize your skin immediately after your shower or on a daily basis.

10

Avoid daily contact with furry animals.
